Asthma is a chronic disease that affects the airways, the tubes that carry air in and out of the lungs. Asthma is a very serious and common disease, one that affects millions of people around the world. The number of those suffering from the condition continues to increase.

Your best approach is to prevent an asthma attack from occurring in the first place. Learn which conditions set off an attack, and do your best to avoid them. However, there will still be times when an asthma attack is unavoidable. This means that learning to manage your asthma symptoms is vital.
Keep in mind that when it comes to asthma, not all attacks are the same. Your symptoms might be worse during some episodes than others. And in a severe asthma attack the airways can close up so much that not enough oxygen gets to the vital organs in the body. This is classified as a medical emergency. Medication
Usually, medication is used to control an asthma attack. It enables those who suffer from asthma to manage their condition and stave off an attack that could become more serious. Asthma medications can be taken orally or inhaled in vapor form using a metered dose inhaler.
There are actually two different kinds of medication that can be used. Bronchodilators help by reducing spasms. Anti-inflammatory treatments work by reducing the inflammation in the airways. If your condition is severe, your physician might recommend that you use them both in combination.
